Ann Hui

Ann Hui was born in Anshan, China in 1947. She emigrated to Hong Kong as a child. After graduating from the city’s university, she studied film in London and then returned to Hong Kong. She has directed numerous documentaries and television dramas and was assistant to King Hu, the master of martial arts cinema. She made her first feature film in 1979, The Secret. Since then, she has directed around thirty fiction films and has won numerous awards.
