Wong Kar-wai
Wong Kar-wai was born in Shanghai in 1958. He emigrated to Hong Kong at the age of 5. A graduate in graphic arts, he was a production assistant and then director on various television series. He became a screenwriter for the cinema and directed, in 1988, As Tear Go By. He became one of the major authors of Hong Kong cinema. He won the prize for best director at Cannes in 1997 with Happy Together. In 2006, he chaired the jury at the Cannes Film Festival and in 2013, that of Berlin.
