FOCUS ON HONG-KONGESE CINEMA

Pitch

In Hong Kong in the 1960s, Zhang, a shy tailor is fascinated by his imperious customer, Miss Hua. As soon as he meets her, she seduces him in order to make sure he will remember her when he designs her clothes. After this first intimate encounter, a passionate relationship develops between the two...

The Hand is the third segment of a triptych entitled "Eros", a variation on eroticism and desire by three masters of contemporary filmmaking : Michelangelo Antonioni with The Dangerous Thread of Things, Steven Soderbergh with Equilibrium and Wong Kar-wai with The Hand. "What seems interesting to me is that the three film directors have got three different perspectives on Eros and what it means to them as well as how they deal with the subject." Wong Kar-wai
