Amreen was a housewife for 18 years, until an unlikely accident during Holi (the Indian festival of colors) left her husband, Imtiaz, disabled for life. Forced to provide for her family and ensure the education of their three children, Amreen now has to work. Her neighbor, Sarita, a cook in several households, is looking for someone to replace her during the two months she will be away. Despite her husband's opposition to her working outside the home, Amreen seizes the opportunity. However, her Muslim identity and the fact that she wears a veil are a major obstacle to her employment, as most of the households where she could work are Hindu. One family, Parul and Vinod, is an exception: open-minded, they prioritize healthy cooking over religious considerations. Their only requirement is adherence to a strictly vegan diet, a world in which Amreen has no experience. Full Plate traces Amreen's difficulties as she is torn between the demands of her new job and the responsibilities she continues to shoulder at home.
