Tannishtha Chatterjee was born in 1980 in Pune, Maharashtra. After studying chemistry in New Delhi, she trained at the National School of Drama in New Delhi. She gained international recognition for her role in Sarah Gavron's Brick Lane, followed by Florian Gallenberg's Shadows of Time. In 2019, she directed her first feature film, Roam Rome Mein, which was selected for Busan and received the prestigious Asia Star Award. Her second film, Full Plate, was selected for its world premiere at Busan in 2025. She is also a singer trained in classical Indian singing.
