In-seon, who still keeps her husband's ashes three years after his suicide, decides it is finally time to let him go. But when her daughter, Su-yeon, returns home and objects to the idea, In-seon begins to doubt her decision. As tensions rise, Su-yeon tries to retrieve the ashes but accidentally breaks the urn. With no other option, mother and daughter must confront their long-buried grief... And say their final goodbyes on a beautiful sunny day. Lee Kwang-kuk explores the difficulty of expressing grief after bereavement. He wants to show how, despite silence, a lack of words or things left unsaid, memories, brief encounters and remembrance can slowly—albeit hesitantly—lead to a more peaceful and benevolent life. He wants, if only for a moment, to allow everyone to find peaceful sleep again. Beautiful Dreamer also questions the social stigma of suicide in a society where the death of a loved one is often shrouded in shame, and how this stigma weighs on those left behind.
