Khyentse Norbu was born in 1961 in Bhutan. He is one of the most important Tibetan lamas. He studied in Sikkim, Bhutan, and India. At the age of 13, he discovered television. His interest in film grew and culminated in his collaboration with Bertolucci on Little Buddha. He gained recognition with his film The Cup in 1999. Since then, he has directed five other films and collaborated with renowned cinematographers such as Mark Lee Ping-Bin and Bradford Young. Pig at the Crossing is his sixth feature film, shot entirely in Bhutan with a crew of young Bhutanese.
