Childhood in the 50s, adolescence in the 60s, high school years in the 70s and the beginning of adult life in the 80s, these are the subjects of this collective film about youth, made by four young Taiwanese filmmakers.

1 - Little Dragon Head

Director : Tao Te-Chen - Scriptwriter : Tao Te-Chen - Cast : Lan Sheng-wen, Yu Hsiao-wei, Yao Chia-chia, Yao To-to, Nieh Cho-ming, Yang Hsing, Teng Shu-yin

A shy, taciturn young boy called Hsiao-fang (little cat) leads a sad life. At home, his parents neglect him, taking more care of his younger brother, and tell him off for playing with his dinosaur toys instead of studying. At school, he is ostracised by his classmates, who play practical jokes on him.

2 - Desires

Director : Edward Yang - Scriptwriter : Edward Yang - Music : Edward Yang - Cast : Shih An-ni, Chang Ying-chen, Liu Ming, Wang Chi-kuang, Sun Ya-tung

Hsiao-fang sets off on a journey to discover herself and faces up to budding feelings of love for a university student older than her who is lodging with her family. One evening, she is witness to her sister’s love-making with the student. The film sensitively captures the intensity of this adolescent’s desire and the complexity of sexual awakening in the heart of the Taiwanese family circle in the 60s.

3 - Leapfrog

Director : Ko I-chen - Sciptwriter : Ko I-chen - Cast : Li Kuo-hsiu, Kuan Chang, Kuan Ping

Tu Shih-lien, nicknamed Fatty, is a student who owns a frog. His father, the owner of a real estate company, would like his son to specialise in architecture and take over from him, but Fatty is only interested in philosophy and computing. Dissatisfied with the life he is leading, he decides to start a club for international students and works as a driver at the weekend.

4 - Tell me You Name

Director : Chang Yi - Scriptwriter : Chang Yi - Cast : Sylvia Chang, Lee Li-chun

A young couple have just moved into their new flat. After an argument the woman goes off for her first day at work. The husband goes down to the letter box to pick up his newspaper, but has an argument with a man who does not recognise the new resident and says that the paper is his. Two young schoolboys close the door to the building and the husband finds himself locked out of his flat.
