A lost cat, a talkative, giant frog and a tsunami help an unambitious salesman, his frustrated wife and a schizophrenic accountant to save Tokyo from an earthquake and put meaning back into their lives. The film is adapted from short stories by Murakami Haruki. “What I like about the films that I love is how they can open up a path to a profound, magical, mysterious universe letting those who are willing to do so open the floodgates of their own imagination and let themselves fall into an abyss, and in falling, be confronted with their own zones of darkness, leaving behind an oppressive reality and thus inspiring them to open their eyes wide, to wake up but in a profound way, from the inside… As a filmmaker, my aim is to make an innovative film, telling in an original way a delicately magical story, based on banal, everyday life, disrupted by cataclysms as internal as they are real. In order to show this interiority within magical realism, the animated film is the perfect means.” Pierre Földes
