Upon reading their mother's will, Jeanne and Simon Marwan are presented with two envelopes: one addressed to a father they believed to be dead, and the other to a brother they never knew existed. Jeanne sees this enigmatic legacy as the key to her mother's silence, who had been inexplicably quiet in the weeks leading up to her death. She immediately decides to travel to the Middle East to unearth the past of this family she knows almost nothing about... Simon, on the other hand, has no interest in the posthumous whims of a mother who always kept her distance. But his love for his twin sister soon prompts him to join Jeanne and travel with her through the land of their ancestors in search of a mother far removed from the one they knew. “To transpose such a dramatic text to the screen and avoid melodrama, I opted for the sobriety of raw realism, preserving the mythological factor of the play by working with natural light and shadows.” Denis Villeneuve
