Nahid is a young divorcee who lives alone with her 10-year-old son in a small town on the shores of the Caspian sea. According to Iranian tradition, the custody of the children is given to the father but he agrees to let his ex-wife have custody of their son provided that she does not remarry. Nahid’s meeting with another man who falls passionately in love with her and wants to marry her throws her life as a wife and mother into turmoil.

“Nahid” is one of the very first Iranian films which focuses on the condition of divorced women, as well as the question of child custody, and the problems related to temporary marriages... Seeing traditional society modernise, Iran is going through a stage of transition.But the laws, because they are rigid are out of line with the reality of the society they are supposed to regulate. Through the portrait of Nahid, it’s the harsh daily life of these women that I wanted to highlight. I hope that this film will help to change the impression that we have of these women, at least from a cultural point of view.” Ida Panahandeh
