Pitch

The Shkolnik family have been researchers from father to son. While Eliezer Shkolnik, a misanthropic and purist professor has always been dogged by bad luck, his son, Uriel has obtained the recognition of his fellows. Until the day the father gets a phone call : the Academy has decided to award him the most prestigious prize in his discipline. His desire for recognition bursts into the open.

Joseph Cedar addresses through the portrait of two generations the question of universality and Israeli cultural particularities : “ Personally, I tend to work on cultural specificities and I hope that the audience will identify to some extent with this story and feel close to the characters... The initial idea is based on the principle of a knot in the intrigue which I try to unravel throughout the story. The inspiration could be autobiographical and that’s what stimulated my imagination... The film however turns out to be much more complex than my first idea. From the moment I started to write, I focused much more closely than I had anticipated on my two protagonists, father and son. ” Joseph Cedar
