Pitch

The story tells us about the life of a Muslim woman in Johor, Malaysia, who has to juggle family life and her career. As a divorced and now single mother, she has to take on the roles of both mother and father. As a mother, she bears all the responsibility for childcare, education and running the household, and as a father, she has to provide for the financial needs of the family. As a divorcee, she finds herself torn between tradition and modernity. In spite of technological progress in today’s society, women are still confronted with this dilemma: choosing to be the traditional, virtuous woman means being accepted by society at the cost of ’death’ of self, while choosing to live as a self-confident, modern woman means being judged as a ‘bad woman’ by society. Through ‘household objects’ such as cups, bowls and her hand- bag, we are immersed in her inner world, where her positive aspirations and the ideals of society fuel her quest to become the perfect version of herself.
