I, The Song

Pitch

In Bhutan, a country of 700,000 people, everyone knows everyone else. Nima, a schoolteacher, faces trouble when an explicit intimate video surfaces online, featuring a woman who looks exactly like her. Nima embarks on a quest to find her mysterious double. But her lookalike, Meto, has disappeared without a trace. The villagers, struck by Nima’s uncanny resemblance to Meto, begin to believe she is Meto’s long-lost ghost. So the village elders suggest singing Aum Tshomo’s sacred song to pierce the mystery. From then on, Nima must open her heart and sing to rebuild her shattered life.

"We have transitioned directly from a strong oral culture to a visual culture composed of television, films and digital media. We didn't take time to give this some thought in between. Today, our oral culture is fading, it is threatened with a silent death that does not say its name... Is it possible to pause in this modern frenzy, to take a moment to reflect on sacredness, on culture, originality, meaning and what holds real value?" Dechen Roder
