Li Ruijun was born in 1983 in Gansu Province. He graduated from Shanxi University with a degree in communication. He has directed six films, all selected for major international film festivals. They all explore the relationship between the land and its people, and speak of rural and family values in a rapidly changing China. Li Ruijun almost always films in his hometown of Gaotai. He chooses his closest collaborators from among his friends and family.
