Apichatpong Weerasethakul  

Apichatpong Weerasethakul was born in Bangkok in 1970 and grew up in Khon Kaen. He earned a degree in architecture from Khon Kaen University and then a master's degree in film from the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1993, he directed his first short film, Bullet. Today, he is considered one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema. His eight feature films and short films have earned him international recognition and numerous awards, including the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2010 for Uncle Boonmee.
