Deniz Gamze Ergüven was born in Ankara in 1978. She lives between France and Turkey then the United States. She is a student in directing at FEMIS, obtains a diploma in letters and a master's degree in African history in Johannesburg. In 2006, his graduation film A Drop of Water was selected for the Cinéfondation and won an award at the Locarno Film Festival. She temporarily abandons her project, Kings, to shoot her first feature film, Mustang.
