Kun is a little boy growing up happily until the arrival of Mirai, his little sister. He is jealous of the baby that monopolizes his parents' attention and he gradually becomes withdrawn. At the bottom of his garden where he often seeks refuge there is a magic family tree. All of a sudden, Kun is transported into a fantastical world where past and future mingle. He will meet in turn his relatives at various stages of their lives: his mother as a little girl, his great-grandfather in the exuberance of his youth and his little sister as a teenager!

"Through a house, a garden and an ordinary family, I would like to conjure up the grand cycle of life and the loop of this life that each of us weaves... I realized that the lives of our children are very similar to ours even if the times are different... the main source of inspiration for this film comes from the time I spend with my children... What is passed down from generation to generation, from our parents to us then from us to our children? Isn't the chain of these lives, which ultimately repeat certain cycles, another form of the unending continuity of life?" Hosoda Mamoru
