During the Lee Dynasty, Shin Sang-yu and Lady Yu are unable to give descents to their very powerful family. Shin’s mother and her uncle decide to find a substitute mother. They go to a village reputed for providing substitute mothers to families unable to procreate otherwise. Ong-nyo, a very beautiful young woman, is chosen. Sang-yu who is deeply in love with his wife is however dazzled by Ong-nyo’s beauty as soon as he spends his first night with her. He rapidly falls in love with her. She is pregnant after a few months and everyone feels very happy, except Lady Yu who feels more and more jealous. Ong-nyo’s mother, who was also a substitute mother, tries to warn her daughter and drive her away from Sang-yu, in vain.
