Scream

Melis, who was born without legs, lives with his young son in a small rural village in Kazakhstan. A weapons test site is near the village; this does not prevent Melis and the other villagers from leading a peaceful life. Zhalgas and his friends look forward to the days when weapons are tested at the site because their school is closed then. Driven by a strong will to live, Melis devotes himself completely to bringing up his son.

Kenzhebek Shaikakov shows the difficult living conditions of the Kazakhs residing near the nuclear test site of Semeysky in the 1980s and 1990s through the life of a father who was born without legs and has lost his wife, and of a boy who shows empathy and lovingly looks after his sick father.
