Inshallah a boy

In present-day Jordan, Nawal, 30, has to fight after her husband's sudden death for her share of the inheritance in order to save her daughter and her home in a society where having a son would change everything.

" 'Inshallah A Boy' is a story of survival, emancipation and hope. Through this story I wanted to denounce the oppression imposed by a patriarchal society and give the audience something to think about... When I was a child, I saw that our society and culture expect women to accept uncomplainingly the abusive behaviour of men who tell them what to believe and how to behave. I therefore understood when I was very young how women have to face an oppressive system and how this attitude is normalized... 'Inshallah A Boy' is inspired by the struggle of a close relative who devoted her whole life to serving her family and who lived with a man who made her lose all notion of who she really was. The idea of this film is to show the lack of control that many women have over their destiny and how easily their rights are violated.
