Masahiro Ando est né à Hokkaido en 1967. Il a participé en tant qu’animateur aux films Ghost in the shell, Jin Roh, Metropolis, Cowboy Bebop et Knockin’on Heaven’s Door. Puis il a travaillé sur des séries comme RahXephon et Eureka Seven et a participé au film Fullmetal Alchemist. Sword of the Stranger est son premier long métrage en tant que réalisateur.
