The Container-In the 1980s, in the country of Bhutan, a mother from a poor, isolated community travels a long distance to obtain medicine for her critically ill child. But, in a cruel twist of fate, she discovers that although the medicine is distributed free of charge by the government, she has to provide a container for the precious liquid. She has no bottle and cannot afford to buy one. Thus begins her quest for a simple container… - Jamyang Dorji conceived this film to highlight the harsh reality of poverty, where even the most basic necessitieslike a simple containercan be out of reach.________In the Realm of the Gods-A masked dancer tries to make a living by impersonating a god. ' I wanted to explore the irony of a character who, on stage, dances as a god - an object of veneration and respect within the framework of ritual and beliefs - while, in real life, he is plagued by hardship and despair.' Pema Tshering_______Why is the Sky Dark at Night?-Dema, 17, discreet and unassuming, leads a monotonous existence in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. She exhausts herself working in a butcher's shop, her days punctuated by the routine of the same gestures and the harshness of daily life. Opposite the shop, a dark alley and a bare wall become a stage where her past and present life are replayed, like a fragile reflection. Through fleeting encounters with her clients and passers-by, Dema gradually learns more about her city and her own destiny. And in this theatre of shadows and meat, amidst the splinters of flesh, the splashes of blood, and the shards of knives, her unborn child perceives in fragments a world it will never truly know. And yet Dema herself continues to move forward. |
