Following her parents' divorce, Rikako Muto, a high school student from Tokyo, reluctantly moves to Kochi with her mother. She arrives in the middle of the school year. The southern, provincial atmosphere of Kochi is very different from Tokyo, and Rikako struggles to fit in with her class. As soon as she arrives, she is noticed by Yutaka Matsuno, who introduces her to his best friend, Taku Morisaki, the narrator of the TV film. During a trip to Hawaii, she happens to borrow some money from Taku. A few months later, she is supposed to fly to Osaka with her best friend, Yumi Kohama. However, when she gets to the airport, she buys tickets to Tokyo. Panicking, Yumi rings Taku to help make her friend see reason. In the end, Taku is forced to take Rikako back to her father's in Tokyo, while Yumi dutifully returns home. During this escapade, Taku gets to know Rakako a lot better.
