Gloaming in Luomu

In Luomu, a quaint town almost unaffected by the passing of time, - unspoiled by mass tourism and small enough to be walked through in - thirty minutes, Bai arrives in a guest house with a postcard sent by - her ex-boyfriend Wang three years earlier, bearing the mysterious - words 'Gloaming in Luomu'. While she goes through the town with - the card in her hand, she finds traces of Wang in different places. Her - plans for a short, peaceful stay are quickly disrupted by the locals and - visitors: Liu, the owner, a discreetly charming lover of wine and philosophical - conversations, her boyfriend Huang and her drink associate, - Peng. As the search for Wang unfolds, the film slows down, inviting - silence, observation, waiting. Bai realizes that the purpose of her - quest is not only to find Wang, but to find her inner self, to explore - what his absence has left within her this emptiness, this suspension, - this fading light. - Zhang Lu offers a meditation on the theme of the 'in-between': between - presence and absence, love and abandonment, town and countryside, - light and gloaming.
