Cemetery of Splendour |
|
Soldiers suffering from a strange sleeping sickness have been transferred to a temporary hospital set up in an abandoned school. Jenjira volunteers to take care of Itt, a handsome soldier who gets no visits. She makes friends with Keng, a young medium who uses her powers to help the close family communicate with the sleeping men. One day, Jenjira finds Itt's diary, covered in odd writing and strange sketches. Perhaps there is a connection between the soldiers' enigmatic syndrome and the ancient mythical site that lies under the school ? - Magic, healing, romance and dreams are intertwined along Jenjira's fragile path to a deeper understanding of herself and the world around her. - 'In this area of Isan, people live not only in an everyday universe but also in a spiritual world. The most ordinary things can become magical… I value my dream world quite as much as my real life. In retrospect, Cemetery of Splendour' can perhaps be perceived as much as a waking dream than as a dreamlike reality.' A. Weerasethakul |
