Les Ombres persanes

In Tehran, a man and a woman discover by chance that another couple are identical to them in every way. Once the turmoil and incomprehension are over, a story of love … and manipulation is to unravel. - 'It's a film about mystery. Therefore all the elements which make it up should encompass their own mystery and strangeness whether it's the scenario or the stage directions. Hence the importance of the time gaps and ellipses. We don't know what's been happening in the meantime and that makes the audience curious... We don't always grasp what motivates the characters. We think we understand them, we try to guess but we're missing some of the pieces to be able to explain completely. The idea of the double opens up the question of the alternative. It doesn't mean an identical copy of you, in fact, quite the contrary. It's you, living and experiencing another existence. To raise this question which goes against prevailing dogmas, is already to criticise fundamentalism. The simple fact of setting the action of this story in Tehran, a capital city where mystery, paranoia and fear reign, is in itself a political act.' Mani Haghighi
