In Iran the punishment for possessing drugs is the same whether you are carrying 30 grams or 50 kilos on you : it's the death penalty. Under these conditions drug traffickers have no qualms about playing for high scores and the sale of crack has exploded. The result is that 6.5 million people have become addicts. After several years of running the traffickers to earth, Samad, an obstinate officer with doubtful methods, eventually gets hold of the drug baron, Nasser K. Just when he thought the affair was solved, his confrontation with the mastermind of the network takes a totally different turn. - 'Individuals react differently to life's circumstances. It seems to me that no one is completely black or white. I take it to heart to show that even the worst people try to claim innocence, that they are above all a product of their social environment. I won't make my characters diabolical. If they act badly, we need to see what has influenced their acts… I had two parallel concerns in this film : on the one hand, the dramatic narrative and on the other, keeping close to reality. So, I was careful not to distance myself from reality and to maintain a balance between narrative rhythm and its realism.' Saeed Roustayi |
