Gaza to Oscar

Filmmakers in Gaza risk their lives to preserve the stories of their people, transforming a harsh reality into films that reach the Oscars. - Alaa is one of those filmmakers, trapped in Gaza, whose works have nevertheless managed to cross the borders and touch audiences around the world. In spite of the blockade, each day they carry on with their double quest: the search for shelter, a bit of bread and water, and also for a cinema shot able to make their voice heard. - Drawing on the knowledge and experience gained during the production of From Ground Zero', initiated by Rashid Masharawi, From Ground Zero +' is a project that presents a variety of portraits of life in Gaza. Each work explores a particular facet of human experience in the face of armed conflict, during a difficult period of reconstruction and collective grief.
