Fièvre Méditerranéenne |

Waleed, a 40-year-old Palestinian living in Haifa with his wife and two children suffers from chronic depression and dreams of having a writing career. He becomes acquainted with Jalal, his new neighbour, a petty crook. The two men soon become inseparable: Jalal is convinced he is helping the writer by showing him his shady schemes; Waleed sees in him the opportunity to carry out a secret plan… - 'The contrast between Waleed and Jalal struck me as interesting: they are both totally different yet at the same time very similar - like the two sides of the same coin. - The two characters are vulnerable while also very strong. Both are outsiders. I wanted to highlight these anti-heroes, magnificent in their despair, in spite of the ordeals they undergo… With Mediterranean Fever' I didn't plan to make a political film, but if the audience sees it that way, I really can't say otherwise. Politics is a fundamental part of my daily life as a Palestinian. However personal the storyline may be, politics is always there in the background.' Maha Haj |
