Once Upon a Bridge in Vietnam II |
|
A classical music enthusiast, François decides to rediscover his grandmother's homeland, Vietnam, through a world he does not know: football. The orchestra becomes a lifeline that accompanies him throughout his journey, showing him how alike football and music are and revealing to him his deep connection to Vietnam. - 'Why football? This question could be the very premise of the film. The choice of a subject is never rational it can emerge from an association of ideas, an impulse or just a burst of inspiration one morning. Of course, football is the most popular sport in Vietnam, as in many other countries. It provides a fascinating window into understanding society with a unique narrative force… I show that you can like classical music and football and that the two worlds, that I almost consider as characters in the film, talk to each other, love one another and dance together. The central idea is to highlight the fact that football is an art, a living score through which to understand Vietnam… Football offers a double interpretation of the country like an orchestra, it brings people together, like a soloist, it reveals local nuances and particularities.'
