Gu Xi lives with her brother Gu Liang in a fishing village in North East China, near the North Korean border. They lead a pleasant, orderly life, like a couple would. She works as a hotel maid and he is a fisherman. When an oil spill threatens their livelihood, Gu Liang manages to find work thanks to a friend. He also becomes acquainted with the attractive Qingchang whose father is a Chinese mafia boss. She brings cheerfulness, a touch of adventure and luxury to their life, but triggers changes too. Gu Xi finds it hard to accept the budding love affair between her brother and the young woman. Things go wrong when a fisherman dies out at sea in suspicious circumstances… - 'Although God can look down at the world as a whole from above, it is impossible for us as individuals to see it in such a way. From our individual perspective, each day is a new day. This is particularly true for our emotions because it is impossible for us to experience someone else's emotions. Therefore we adopt a young woman's point of view to understand the world.' Liang Ming |
