Yura left Tokyo with his parents to go and live in the country near his grandmother's. He was enrolled in a Catholic school and had to adapt to a new environment. One day, in the middle of a prayer, Jesus appeared to him. From that moment on, all Yura's wishes came true. - 'Like Yura, I changed suddenly from a local secular school to a Protestant school in the country, with the shock and rift that such a move brought about - I'll never forget how excited I felt when I discovered this religion ! And, like Yura, I also lost my best friend in a road accident during my schooling. I wanted to bring these two events together in the story … It's as if Yura were taking the spectators by the hand and getting them to ask the questions that he himself is asking, moreover without always giving an answer. Jesus isn't seeking to deliver a specific message, but rather opening ways of thought. He's a playful Jesus - It obviously isn't a representation of the real Jesus Christ ! He's the imaginary friend of this little boy, almost a toy, a figure of his imagination.' Okuyama Hiroshi |
