Songe

Twelve-year-old Sami's carrier pigeon has flown away. Convinced as he is that his bird has gone back to where it was born, the young boy persuades his uncle and cousin to go with him on his journey from a refugee camp in the West Bank, through Bethlehem, Jerusalem's Old City and Haifa. Along the way, they meet other Palestinians who share their experiences, perceptions and yearnings. Through this journey, the absurdity and the resourcefulness of their daily lives become apparent. - 'For me, Sami's journey with his uncle and cousin, looking for a lost pigeon, is much more than a simple quest. It's an exploration of human relationships, of places and memories. It's also an attempt to preserve their dreams in spite of the harshness of reality and the absurdity of their daily life. This journey becomes the discovery of the beauty within each person and each place -- a way of inventing hope and of forging inner shields against the constant disillusionment born of the unknown and the irrational.'
