1984, Punjab, India : at the height of the militant, Sikh separatist movement. Two Hindu friends make a phenomenal effort to get to Amritsar. In desperation, they force their way onto an empty train, heading towards town. On the way, one of them remembers a terrible night: one evening when he lost his way going to his wife’s village, he met a Sikh family who helped him to get back on the right road. The film explores the way social and political upheaval take away the right of the man in the street to live his life in peace, a situation echoed throughout the world.

“It’s obvious that I feel for the individuals who are caught up in this war. No one in my film is completely black or white. But I am critical of the State and its repressive policies. This violence committed by the government is completely unacceptable. The State should show more maturity, with regard to these conflicts and ideological movements.” Gurvinder Singh
