Everything in Yoni’s life is complicated. He is nearly 13 years old and would like to be bigger, stronger, taller and can’t wait for his voice to break. As if all that wasn’t enough, just one week before his Bar Mitzvah ceremony, on top of everything else, he is going to have to cope with his autistic, Tomer, 17-year-old brother, whom he hasn’t seen for years. His coming home is going to shake all the family: the father who pretends to his family and friends that he is still employed, the mother who manages a kindergarten while having an affair and Yoni, who is in fact the only adult in this family.
Mabul is portraying the story of a family unable to rise above its past mistakes and just an inch before falling completely apart - receives a second chance. Thus, Mabul begins with an alienated, gloomy, autumn like, even a bit frozen atmosphere. As of the sudden arrival of Tomer, the “hidden” child of the family - the atmosphere begins to change and slowly warm up, little by little. The light changes as well - enabling the warmth to envelop the village and slowly free the family from its emotional frost. The source of warmth is mainly the growing and tightening relationship between Yoni and his brother Tomer, and nature that comes bursting into the house.
