Young Taiwanese women Jade and Suk-ling come to Hong Kong and become friendly with Billie. The three of them share the same aim: become rich and famous. They meet Tony Cheung, a handsome drunk young man, son a wealthy rice trader. He enjoys night clubs and drinking. The four of them have a good time until that evening when Suk-link is murdered. Detective Lau, a divorcee quite ill, is in charge of the investigation. He feels very close to their lifestyle, yet ignoring the complicated love triangle binding them. They decide to leave for Suk-ling's hometown in the centre of Taiwan; once there they gra dually discover secrets…

Love unto Waste is Stanley Kwan's second film. Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Chow Yun Fat have now become very famous.
