The story happens in the 19th century. Young Dalaï Tseren is gifted with a prodigious strength and wants to learn traditional Mongol wrestling. He wanders in the country, searching for a master. By chance, he meets Ochin Zaan, a famous wrestler, who agrees to teach him. Soon, Dalaï Tseren is given recognition. During Naadam, the festival of wrestling, he falls in love with beautiful Udval, the daughter of a nobleman. Their love seems impossible as the young woman is engaged with a rich lord...

The Leading Wrestler Garuda shows the links binding Mongol people to their traditions. J. Buntar successfully recreates pre-revolution times.
