Johan, a young meteorologist working for a government bureau, was sent to a particularly deprived area where drought prevails. He observes the sky, ready to intervene when clouds are seen and expected to turn into a rain so much hoped for. Asih, a young singer in a traditional shadow puppet theatre, is liked by all the men in the village. Her life itself is a symbol. Asih’s servant is totally dedicated to her. When Johan falls in love with Asih, the whole village faces an upheaval. The Rainmaker is a film of mood and atmospheres that liberates the audience to experience the illusions that a film offers. To "feel" and not just to "watch".
