Atif Yilmaz was born in1925 in Mersin. After finishing the high school in Mersin, he attended the Law School of Istanbul University. Because of his interest in arts, he dropped out the Law School and entered the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul and also wrote film critics. He became very quickly a leading voice in Turkish movie industry of the 1950s, before starting Turkish New Wave toggether with Yilmaz Gùney. Producer, director and often scriptwriter of his own movies, he takes on all kind of genress. He succeeded in staying atop industry for more than 4 decades thanks to his faculty to adapt to changes. He directed 111 movies. He died May 05th 2006 at age 80.
