Abbas Fahdel was born in Babylon, Iraq. He came to France at the age of 18 to study cinema. He has a doctorate in cinema and defends his thesis at La Sorbonne. After returning to fight in his country during the Iran-Iraq war, he returned to settle in France. In 2002, he secretly filmed a documentary, Return to Babylon, then in 2004, We the Iraqis. He is also a journalist and film critic.
The Dawn of the World is his first feature film.
