Iliya Trauberg was born in Odessa, Ukraine, in 1905. He first works in theater, while writing essays and film reviews about movies. In 1927, he starts working at Sovkino in Leningrad. He becomes Eisenstein’s assistant on the shooting of October. His debut feature, The Blue Express, becomes a huge success in 1929. Starting 1945, he becomes the responsible of the Mosfilm’s Actor’s Studio in Moscow. He dies of a sudden heart attack at age 43 in 1948.
