Deepa Mehta was born in 1950 in Amritsar in India. Graduated in philosophy, she works in Canada where she meets her future husband. She founds Sunrise Films and directs her debut feature documentary in 1985, which is multirewarded all around the world. In 1991, she produces and directs her debut feature, Sam and Me.
