Vimukthi Jayasundara was born in 1977 in Ratnapura. He started as an editor and film critic. After a first documentary, The Land of Silence, he studied at Le Fresnoy, Studio national des arts contemporains, in France. He was a resident of Cinefondation during Cannes Film Festival in 2003.
