Xie Jin was born in 1923 in Shangyu, Zhejiang Province. Xie enrolled in the play department of Jiang'an National Drama School in Sichuan and became an assistant to Wu Renzhi, Zheng Xiaoqiu and Shi Hui. Later on, he became a director on his own.
