After studying cinema abroad, Somchith Pholsea started working on historical and propaganda documentaries. He has been asked to direct Lao People’s Democratic Republic’s first feature length, The Sound of Gunfire from the Plain of Jars in 1983 together with Vietnamese filmmaker Pham Ky Nam. The movie’s commercial failure also ended his brief career as a moviemaker.
