Hiam Abbass, a woman of many talents in a complex world

Hiam Abbass, a Palestinian Christian from Israel, was born in Galilee in the village of Deir Hanna, near Nazareth, on 30 November 1960. She is a photographer, an actress, a director and a producer, a scriptwriter and an author, and a polyglot: she speaks Arabic, Hebrew, English and French. She has sat on several prestigious juries, (the Berlinale, Cannes) and has received multiple awards: the Bayart d’or in 2001 at the Namur International Festival of French-Speaking Film (Belgium); the Ophir best actress award in 2004, 2005 and 2008 (Israel); the Prix Henri-Langlois in 2012 and the Valois best actress award in 2017 at the Festival du film francophone d’Angoulème (France).
