Asli, a woman who used to be a bank director and has just given birth, lives the life of an upper middle-class woman. Tired of staying at home, she wants to go back to work. Her employers approve of her coming back, but demote her. Who will take care of her adorable baby? Her husband, an engineer, is busy. Her own mother abandoned her when she was a baby. Through a gardener, she finds a young woman, Gulnihal, who also has a young baby. Her husband has gone to the army, her stepmother takes care of her baby, while Guilnihal takes care of Asli’s baby. Guilnihal has grown up in a village, and unlike Asli, she knows how to cook, how to clean a house, how to make yoghurt, and how to really take care of a baby. Asli is quietly jealous of Guilnihal’s skills. “ People who belong to different social classes and to different places on the society spectrum have to face problems that arise from the quickly changing society in which I live. The lost values cannot be replaced by new ones; people have trouble adapting to their social roles, and that leads to internal tensions.” Semih Kaplanoğlu
