He organized acting workshops and became a screenwriter and director willing to experiment with different subjects, styles and techniques. Among his best-known Taiwanese-language films are the baseball film Kiss Me (1963), Alias Lover (1965) based on The Strange Case of Dr. Mr. Hyde, a disaster film, The Night of Jiayi Earthquake (1964), and Back Street Life (1965), a satirical comedy about little people. Eight of Hsin Chi's Taiwanese-language films still exist and are preserved at the Taiwan Film Institute.
