In the mountains of Afghanistan, young shepherds obey the rules: they keep an eye on their flocks and do not go around with the opposite sex. But their carefree nature is never far away; while the boys play rowdy games and practise slinging stones to keep off the wolves, the girls secretly smoke, play at weddings and make fun of little Sediqa, considered as an accursed girl. The legends told by their elders mingle with their life and throw light on the mysteries of their sheltered world – but for how long?

“I wanted to show Afghanistan the way it is. I didn’t quite know how to go about it, but I knew what I didn’t want to discuss. I banished women’s rights, elections and bombings from my film. I wanted an inhabitant of the area to see the film and to say to himself or herself: this is my life. I want to rid my country of clichés and to show how rich its culture is by using new, original pictures.” Shahrbanoo Sadat
